FIRST IN THE FOREST STUDENTS EXPLORE GHANA IN TRANSFORMATIVE STUDY ABROAD TRIP

Over spring break, students in WFU’s First in the Forest program traveled to Ghana for a cultural immersion experience of a lifetime. Acacia Fike-Nelson, Scholars Program Specialist in the Scholar’s Office, created a compelling video documenting the two-week experience. Watch the video on the First in the Forest website.

WAKE FOREST STUDENTS WIN ACC DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP

Wake Forest University sophomores Destiny Hale and Hanna Shakarov won the 2025 ACC Debate Championship by defeating Southern Methodist University in the tournament’s final round on April 27 in Washington, D.C. The topic for debate was: “Resolved: Washington D.C. should be granted statehood.” Read more on Wake Forest News.

WFU TAKES SECOND PLACE IN ELECTRIC BOAT COMPETITION

Wake Forest students came in second place at the annual Promoting Electric Propulsion (PEP) competition, held each year by the American Society of Naval Engineers and the United States Coast Guard. The competition, held in Virginia Beach in April, challenges college teams to design, build, and race electric-powered boats.

Wake Forest students and alumni were named recipients or finalists for 20+ competitive scholarship awards in the 2024-2025 academic year. Preparing candidates for the national stage is a serious communal undertaking, and scores of faculty, staff, and alumni came together with the Scholars Office to help our students succeed.

We are grateful for the service of the Committee members below and to every individual who wrote a letter of recommendation on behalf of their students—or encouraged a student to apply!

If you would like to be a part of the Fulbright, Truman, Goldwater, or UK Awards Committees, please contact the Director of the Scholars Program, Jackie Sheridan at sheridj@wfu.edu.
